The collection includes one box for each type of wildlife, plus an information card with details on each wildflower mix

Contents:

Bee Box – A mix of native wildflowers that bees will just love! This carefully selected mix is designed specifically to attract solitary bees, honey bees and bumblebees. Includes birdsfoot trefoil, foxglove, red Clover, viper’s bugloss and wild marjoram.

Butterfly Box – This lovely collection of mostly purple, pink and blue flowers is designed to attract butterflies to our gardens, balconies and window boxes and uses only flowers recommended by Butterfly Conservation. Includes purple loosestrife, forget-me-not, musk mallow, red campion and yarrow.

Hedgehog Box – A wildflower patch of is a super addition to creating a hedgehog friendly garden, not only in providing shelter but importantly to attract a whole range of tasty insects for hedgehogs to feed on. This mix includes yellow rattle, wild carrot, birdsfoot trefoil, tufted vetch, self heal and poppy.

Bird Box – This careful selection of plants will boost the food supply for a wide range of birds including goldfinches, blue tits, chaffinches, greenfinches, robins, starlings, increasing the number of birds seen in your garden. Whilst in bloom the flowers will attract insects that many birds feed on, while birds will also feed directly on the plants and seeds themselves. Includes corn marigold, poppy, greater knapweed, sheep sorrel, tufted vetch, and wild carrot.

Beetle Box – The ideal mix to attract ladybirds and pollinating beetles, who are really important for our garden ecosystems (did you know that beetles pollinated the first flowers at the time of the dinosaurs!). The mix includes common knapweed, cornflower, cow parsley, field scabious, foxglove, great burnet and yarrow.

Bat Box – Contains a special mix of wildflowers to attract a wide diversity of insects that bats feed on (such as moths), including flowers that release their fragrance in the evening when bats are most active in our gardens. The mix also has plants with a combination of long and short pollen tubes and a range of colours and shapes of flower to maximise the number of insects that they attract. Includes borage, cornflower, corn marigold, evening primrose, night-scented stock and wallflower.

Each box (made from 100% recycled card) contains 6 seed balls, plus a little card insert to explain what the balls are and how to use them. Incredibly easy to use – simply scatter on top of soil or compost (no digging or expertise required) and nature will do the rest! One box will cover 1-2 pots. Use 6 boxes per square metre in a garden. Best scattered in Spring or Autumn.

Why Seedballs?

Seedballs are an innovative way to plant seeds without the need for digging or complex planting. The protective layer of clay and compost ensures the seeds have a higher chance of germination, even in tough conditions. By using seedballs, you can help combat habitat loss and support declining pollinator populations with minimal effort.

FAQs

Are seed balls safe around pets and children?

Generally, yes—but some wildflower mixes may include toxic species (like Foxglove in the Bee Mix), so please choose mixes carefully if there's a risk of ingestion.

Are these made in the UK?

Yes! All products are proudly and lovingly made in the UK. This includes ALL of our ranges: bin & recycling storage, bike & scooter shelters, log & firewood storage, compost bins, garden planters, water butt planters, living wall planters, dipping tanks, wildflower products and more.

Do I need to thin out the seedlings?

Not at all—seedlings naturally disperse as the clay disintegrates. Let nature lead, and enjoy the organic spread of growth.

How do I use seed balls effectively?

Simply scatter them on the soil or compost—no digging required. Leave them intact; once moist and warm, the clay allows seeds to germinate on their own. This method works equally well in garden beds, pots, or window boxes.

How do seed balls benefit soil health and local wildlife?

Because there’s no digging involved, soil micro-life remains undisturbed and robust. Deep-rooting wildflowers improve soil structure, reduce compaction, enhance moisture retention, and support pollinators and other wildlife year-round.

How long do seed balls remain usable?

Stored correctly in a cool, dry place, seed balls usually keep well for several seasons—making them a versatile option for future planting.

How many seed balls should I use?

As a guide, aim for 20 seed balls per m² for a lush display. For container plantings, 3–5 balls suit small pots, while 8–12 balls work well for larger ones. Adjust depending on your desired density and location.

How should I water the seed balls?

If outdoors, nature generally provides enough moisture. But during dry spells—or if your seed balls are under cover or indoors—water every 1–2 days to keep the clay moist and encourage germination.

What makes seed balls different from regular loose seed?

Seedballs act as miniature ecosystems—each one contains wildflower seeds encased in a blend of clay, peat-free compost, and chilli powder. This clever design protects the seeds from birds, ants, slugs, and other disturbances while providing nutrients and moisture retention—making wildflower gardening effortless, even without prior experience.

When is the best time to scatter wildflower seed balls?

For optimal germination, autumn is ideal—many native species need a cold spell to break dormancy. Early spring is also effective. If sowing in summer, chill the seed balls in the fridge for a few days beforehand to mimic winter and improve success.

When will I see sprouts and flowers?

Sprouting typically begins within 4–6 weeks, once the clay is well hydrated and temperatures are favourable. Blooming timing varies—spring scattering may see some annuals flowering in the first year, but perennials and biennials often take until the second season.

Where should I scatter seed balls for the best results?

Use open, sunny spots—avoid thick grass or heavily shaded areas. If scattering on grass, rake off the top layer first. Seed balls also thrive in compost-filled pots or planters.
