Meet the HOTBIN — a wheelie-bin sized, seriously clever compost bin that turns your food and garden waste into rich, peat-free compost in as little as 30-90 days. Unlike a traditional cold compost heap, the HOTBIN uses hot composting technology to reach internal temperatures of 40-60°C, which means it can break down things a normal bin simply can't: cooked food, meat, bones, weeds and even pet waste.
The handy screw cap at the bottom also allows you to easily drain and collect the compost leachate - water this down 10:1 and use as a liquid fertiliser on your plants.
There's no tumbling, no forking and no turning required. Just add your waste, along with some woodchip (not included) and shredded paper to keep things balanced, and let the HOTBIN do the hard work. It's a fully sealed, continuous composter with a solid base and an airtight, odour-filtered lid, so it's designed to keep smells (and the pests they attract) well away from your garden.

What can I put in the HOTBIN? Pretty much all your food and garden waste — fruit and vegetable peelings, grass cuttings, leaves, cooked food, pet waste, meat and even small bones. The high temperatures inside the HOTBIN kill off weed seeds, pathogens and fly larvae, so you can compost things a traditional cold compost heap simply can't handle.
Do I need to turn the compost? No. The HOTBIN is a continuous composter — there's no tumbling, forking or turning required. Just keep adding waste, woodchip and shredded paper, and remove finished compost from the base as needed.
Will it smell or attract pests? The HOTBIN is a fully sealed unit with an airtight lid and a built-in odour filter, specifically designed to reduce the smells that attract flies and vermin. As with any compost bin, it isn't rat-proof, but the reduced odour goes a long way to discouraging unwanted visitors.
Does it work in winter? Yes — the HOTBIN is designed to work all year round. Its insulating walls help retain heat even in colder weather, and a kick-start bottle is included to help keep things moving during the winter months.
Do I need to buy the plinth? No, it's entirely optional. The plinth simply makes it easier to drain and collect the liquid fertiliser produced during composting — handy if you want to use it to feed your plants, but not essential to how the HOTBIN works.
