✓ Self-assembly in 10-15 minutes ✓ Free UK mainland delivery ✓ Made in the UK ✓ Composts meat, bones, garden waste, pet waste & cooked food

Meet the HOTBIN Mega — a batch hot composter built for serious volumes of waste, turning your food and garden waste into rich, peat-free compost in as little as 90 days.

Unlike a traditional cold compost heap, the HOTBIN Mega uses hot composting technology to reach internal temperatures of 40-60°C, which means it can break down things a normal bin simply can't: cooked food, meat, bones, weeds and even pet waste.

There's no back-breaking tumbling, no forking and no turning required. Just fill it up with chopped waste, along with some woodchip (not included) and shredded paper to keep things balanced, and let the HOTBIN Mega do the hard work. It's a self-contained, fully sealed unit with a solid base and an odour-filtered lid, so it's designed to keep smells (and the pests they attract) well away from your garden or allotment.

Perfectly sized for large gardens, allotments and community garden projects, the HOTBIN Mega is ideal for households with plenty of green waste to get through. It works all year round, whatever the weather, and being made from lightweight, insulating ARPRO expanded polypropylene, it's easy to settle into any flat spot — sun or shade.

Unlike our HOTBIN Mini and HOTBIN (200), the Mega arrives flat-packed and requires simple self-assembly — this takes around 10-15 minutes and we'd recommend two people to help click the interlocking wall panels together.

PLEASE NOTE: The HOTBIN Mega (450L) is not rat proof — no compost bin truly is, as vermin experts confirm that rats will chew through almost anything. The HOTBIN has a built-in odour filter specifically designed to minimise the smells that attract vermin in the first place.

FAQs

What can I put in the HOTBIN Mega? Pretty much all your food and garden waste — fruit and vegetable peelings, grass cuttings, leaves, cooked food, meat and even small bones. The high temperatures inside the HOTBIN kill off weed seeds, pathogens and fly larvae, so you can compost things a traditional cold compost heap simply can't handle.

Do I need to turn the compost? No. Simply fill the HOTBIN Mega up with chopped waste and let it do the hard work — there's no back-breaking turning or tumbling required. Once ready, harvest the finished compost and start again.

Will it smell or attract pests? The HOTBIN Mega is a fully sealed unit with a built-in odour filter, specifically designed to reduce the smells that attract flies and vermin. As with any compost bin, it isn't rat-proof, but the reduced odour goes a long way to discouraging unwanted visitors.

Does it work in winter? Yes — the HOTBIN Mega is designed to work all year round. Its thick, insulating walls help retain heat even in colder weather.

How long before I get usable compost? Typically around 90 days, depending on the waste you add and the time of year.

Does the HOTBIN Mega come with a plinth? No — the plinth is designed specifically for the HOTBIN and HOTBIN Mini ranges and isn't compatible with the Mega. If you'd like to expand your HOTBIN Mega's capacity instead, take a look at our separate HOTBIN Mega Expansion Kit, which increases capacity from 450 to 700 litres.

Is assembly difficult? Not at all — the HOTBIN Mega simply clicks together using interlocking wall panels and a ratchet strap. It takes around 10-15 minutes and we'd recommend having a second person on hand to help.
